Cindy Nafpliotis Introduction Blog

 Hello, my name is Cindy Nafpliotis. This is my second year at UAF and I am excited to start the semester! I am majoring in education and hope to be a special ed teacher by the end of college. I enjoy traveling, I try to travel at least once a year and this year my family and I are doing a road trip in November. I also enjoy reading, I like to read fiction, especially when it's cold outside. I am not a big fan of the snow and hope to be out of Alaska within the next six years or so and head somewhere that summer lasts all year long. In my spare time I enjoy doing yoga and running, as well as watching T.V., my favorite show to watch is Gilmore Girls and I like to run outside in the summer.

I don't have a strong connection with art, I've never been into drawing, but I do enjoy going to art museums and my brother is a really good artist. I do admire people who are good with art and know how to create such beautiful images. I am not a big fan of modern art, I enjoy more of a renaissance art. I think it's amazing how people where able to paint and draw and sculpt with such precision and very little tools to do so. I would love to go to Europe and look at all of the buildings and art work done inside, it's on my bucket list for sure!

    I hope you get to go to Europe. I have fabulous memories of my art trips in Europe. My husband and I are planning a trip to Spain and Portugal once the pandemic is over.

    Yes, Europe would be a great trip to take. There is so much art and creativity within their architecture alone.

    Hey Cindy, that is a wonderful career you are going into. I also enjoy yoga and Gilmore girls is one of my favorite shows too. Alaskan winters can be hard! I wish you the best this semester!

                                                                    Greek Art in the Classical Period                           Marble head of a woman and veil wearing diadem                             GREECE-425-400 B.C. This sculpture is currently located in The Met in New York City, the artist is unknown. In this sculpture, a Greek woman is shown with a cloak on top of her head. She is looking forward and is suspected to be walking in this piece. The sculpture is made out of marble, a type of stone, which was a common thing to use in this time period. This sculpture represents Greece because art such as this one, was very common and valued in their culture. Often there were sculptures that had an entire body, not just the head with great detail to them. The sculptures would represent how strong their men were and how beautiful their women were. I chose this piece because I find it very impressive. The sculpture did an amazing job with the eyes and lips specifically.

     It’s a Man’s World I By: Pauline Boty~1964 The painting is currently located in the Tate Modern in London. This art piece is an example of pop art. Pop art was very popular in the 1960’s. In this specific painting, it’s showing us all of these men and the things they have accomplished, hence “It’s a Man’s World I”. The artist had intended for the men to be there in representation of the building block for America and the government, however, I don’t think that’s what most people get from looking at the painting. This piece has a lot of color in it, which helps gather the attention of the audience. The painting looks as if pieces were cut from other pieces of art and put together, which is implying that we are all together in this world. I like that there are different textures used in most of the little paintings. It gives it a very unique look. I personally wouldn’t own this piece because it’s just not to my liking, however I do like how the artist did this piece.
